The Japan Team brings unique legal capabilities to a large and diverse client base of Japanese-owned companies represented by the Firm. Working closely with Japanese manufacturing and service companies doing business in the United States, the Team offers the benefit of extensive experience in negotiating economic incentives for startup or expansion, and advising on real estate acquisitions, plant permitting and construction, corporate structuring, financing and tax matters. Team members regularly address virtually all day-to-day business and operational legal issues facing Japanese-owned companies, including immigration, trademark and patent protection, employment law, commercial contracts, product distribution, licensing, product liability and litigation matters. Team members also have extensive experience in the area of mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures involving Japanese-owned companies.

Because a number of the Team's lawyers, paralegals and other professionals are fluent in both Japanese and English, the Japan Team is able to offer its services in both languages. Among the Team's lawyers are Japanese natives who have obtained J.D. law degrees from U. S. Law schools and who are licensed to practice law in jurisdictions served by the Firm. Their language capabilities, and the Firm's e-mail and computer programs, enable them to receive and send communications with the Firm's Japanese clients in both Japanese and English. In addition, their familiarity with Japanese laws and customs facilitates communication with legal departments and managers in Japan and the United States regarding U.S. law.

In order to serve Japanese owned companies and to assist in fostering a greater understanding of business, customs and related legal issues in Japan and the U.S., Japan Team members regularly participate in international, regional and local Japan America Society events, seminars and leadership positions.
